报告题目: Unleash the Industrial and Scientific Value of Artificial Intelligence
报告简介: While artificial intelligence has achieved many breakthroughs in recent years, its value in promoting the digital transformation of industries and assisting the development of natural sciences needs to be further improved. In this talk, we will discuss how to unleash the huge potential of artificial intelligence and create greater industrial and scientific value. On the one hand, we will show how to abstract the core pain points of various industries (e.g., finance, logistics, healthcare) and build general AI frameworks to address them. On the other hand, we will demonstrate how to design advanced AI technologies to push the frontiers of physics, biology, environmental science, and other scientific fields. Examples include using deep learning to achieve accurate molecular modeling, using self-supervised learning to achieve efficient PDE solution, using dual learning to estimate the emissions of pollutants, and using large-scale molecular dynamics simulation to understand the pathogenesis of viruses. At the end of the talk, we will have an open discussion on the future of artificial intelligence.
Tie-Yan Liu is a distinguished scientist of Microsoft, an assistant managing director of Microsoft Research Asia, a fellow of IEEE and ACM. He is well known for his pioneer work on learning to rank, and his recent research interests include deep learning, reinforcement learning, machine learning for industry, and machine learning for science. He has published hundreds of papers in top conferences and journals, with tens of thousands of citations. He has been invited to serve as general chair, program committee chair, or (senior) area chair for a dozen of top conferences including WWW/WebConf, SIGIR, KDD, ICML, NIPS, ICLR, IJCAI, AAAI, ACL, as well as associate editor of ACM Transactions on Information Systems, ACM Transactions on the Web, and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. He won the best (student) paper award at SIGIR (2008) and ACML (2018), the most cited paper award at Journal of Visual Communications and Image Representation (2004-2006), the most cited Chinese researcher award by Elsevier, and the most influential scholar award by AMiner (2007-2017). His team developed LightGBM in 2017 (which has become one of the most popular machine learning tools in Kaggle and KDD Cup), achieved human parity in machine translation in 2018, built the world-best Mahjong AI named Suphx (which achieved 10 DAN on the Tenhou Mahjong platform in 2019), and most recently invented Graphormer (which won KDD Cup on molecular modeling and Open Catalyst Challenge in 2021). In addition, his team has helped several industrial partners (e.g., Asset Management China, China Taiping, OOCL, SF-Express, FareastTone, and Humana) to achieve successful AI transformations.
